I started playing with mud after retirement from over thirty years working in the medical rehabilitation field. I gravitated towards gardening first, developing a love for plumerias that expanded to cacti and succulents. I fell in love with all the textures and colors of succulents and cacti and began to stage them with different containers. Creating new combinations of color, shapes and textures awakened so much joy in my heart. After starting with concrete containers, a friend introduced me to the world of hand made pottery. I’ve been playing in the mud ever since. I feel so happy and honored to create pieces that bring joy and contentment to others. It is exciting to me that a product of my own hands will be held in someone else’s hand with high regard. It’s like we have a heart to hand connection!
This journey into the world of pottery has also deepened my spiritual connection with God. He is the Master Potter. Though none of my creations will ever be flawless and perfect, there is so much love that goes into each piece I make. The very personal and intimate nature of working with clay gave me a sense of God's great love for us. Pottery takes a vision, effort and patience. Initial ideas undergo a process of thought, trial and error, and improvement as a lump of clay is kneaded, shaped and then transformed to something of substance and beauty. If I put so much of my heart and soul into my clay creations, just think about how much more God must put into us! I get so excited each time I open up my kiln that I can only imagine how excited He is as He sees us grow into the people He designed us to be!
